Recently Berthoud High School’s robotics club made it to the semi-finals. Sadly none of the 4 teams that made it progressed to the finals. Mr. Sommerfield wasn’t discouraged though he said, “ The teams did really well but this year the competition was really really hard.”
The semi-finals took place in Aurora and took 11 hours to complete. Mr. Sommerfield said, “After 50 qualifying matches with each of our teams competing in 8 matches each, we had 4 teams make it to the semi finals but after that no BHS team was in the finals.”
Mr. Sommerfield encourages incoming and existing students to join the club for the opportunities it can bring. The robotics club was started around 16 years ago and since it has grown and advanced into what it is now. It’s all about experimenting and designing with robots to see if something works and doesn't work.
The robotics club is open to all. Mr. Sommerfield says “Anybody’s skill level can fit in robotics, it can be someone who has never touched a robot to someone who has experience in programming.” His goal is to push students farther than they ever thought they could go and to teach people all about robots.
