In the past few years, the town of Berthoud has grown drastically. New businesses, homes, and other buildings have been added to the town starting in 2012 when the seller’s market started to heat up. Residents have many different opinions on what is happening and why it is happening.

“I am a fan of all the new things we have to look forward to in town but not a fan of all the new people that it brings,” says Elizabeth Speer. Not only has the number of businesses grown but the population has grown with it. According to the U.S. Census Bureau, the population in Berthoud in 2010 was 5,183 and now there are approximately 7,946 people.

A major reason for all the new people and places in Berthoud is its location. Berthoud is located about 15 minutes away from the town of Loveland and a 40-minute drive from Fort Collins. This makes it a perfect place to live if you have a job in those areas but don’t want to live in the city.

The location of Berthoud also makes it perfect for farming. There is enough remote farmland here that is also really good for growing crops. Farmers here grow wheat, sugar beets, corn, barley, and other crops. This makes the land worth a lot of money.

Over the years as this small town grows and is added onto, more people continue to join the community. This brings in many different opinions hence the divide in the people. The town will continue to grow in the coming months.
