In their last game on Friday, Berthoud Baseball was once again prevented from playing due to bad weather. Colorado has been hammered by spring showers and snowstorms all of May. The team made the trip all the way up to Fort Morgan (the drive is almost an hour and a half). The clouds were threatening to rain at the beginning of the game, but it didn’t start raining until the fourth inning. Because of this, the game had to be postponed after the fourth inning ended.
However, the first few innings of the game were very interesting. Berthoud took an early lead in the first inning by scoring one run. Lane Pirkey led the inning off with a walk, then stole second. Two sacrifice hits from the 3 and 4 hole hitters, Adrian Short and Matt Jorrisen moved Pirkey all the way home.
Berthoud was able to hold their lead over Fort Morgan until the fourth inning. Fort Morgan was able to rally a few base hit singles together, allowing their 5 hole hitter to drive in a run from second. After the fourth inning, however, the rain grew too strong to play and the Umpires decided to postpone the game.
The game will be resumed at a later date. As of right now, there is no date set, but it will be scheduled within the next few weeks. Fort Morgan will host the game again and the game will pick up exactly where it left off.
